Indie Podcast New from Podcasting News

I thought it was so cool that some Indie Podcasts are making it good over some powerful known types such as BBC and NPR; I added a few to my iTunes rotation.  Right on!

Indie podcasts made a comeback on the Podcasting News Top 10 Podcast List in August.

Five of the top positions were held by indie podcasters. As recently as June, public radio podcasts and commercial podcasts dominated the list.

"Early in the summer, several trends pushed public radio podcasts and commercial podcasts into the Top 10 Podcast list," notes Podcasting News' Elle Webb. "Indie podcasters, though, are proving to be contenders and are fighting their way back to the top."

The arrival of mainstream media in the podcasting world led to a surge of interest in commercial and public radio podcasts.

"There was a lot of pent-up demand for public radio podcasts. This unmet demand generated interest and activity for public radio shows when they finally appeared," said Webb. "The release of iTunes, along with media coverage of commercial podcasters, also generated a lot of interest for commercial podcasts."

"Interest in indie podcasts, though, looks like it's as strong as ever," adds Webb.

Another for the "Bloody Cool" Bin - Creative Commons (CC)

Years ago when I was mixing electronica I was worried, like many others, that I was treading on other's work. Well, ya, I was but I didn't like it. And I only shared it with friends. Now I have my own PodCast (sensoryproject.typepad.com) and I have to use music from time to time but where do I get it and have the right to use it? Enter the "Bloody Cool" award for the year; "Creative Commons" (http://creativecommons.org/). Tons of music that you can use as long as you give proper citation on who and where, don't cut or mix, don't make $$ on it.

It get's better!!  For my PodCasts I need something I can cut and mix, making intros, loops, etc.

Enter: (is there better than "Bloody Cool"?) Creative Commons Mixter (http://ccmixter.org/)....

A site where you can use any of the music to mix, mash, do whatever, upload and share...blah blah blah. Bottomine, perfect for me and I am legal!!!

NPR and Podcasting

We know that I love Podcasting (my IPod is half full of Podcasts the rest music) and we all know I love NPR. Now, if I could get Podcasts of my favorite NPR shows I'd be really happy. Yet I worry what this would do to my local Public station OPB if I can get the show direct. Since I pay for OPB because I belive in public radio, I'd also pay for a subscription to get my favorite NPR podcasts. Think about it NPR a chance to get more much needed $$$.
